Zarif to meet Pakistan’s president, foreign minister

Iran’s FM will meet Pakistan’s president and foreign minister during one-day visit to Islamabad.
Mehr News reported that Mohammad Javad Zarif would leave for Pakistan to attend the 16th Conference of D-8 Council of ministers in Islamabad. During the visit, Zarif will meet Pakistan’s president and foreign minister (president national security and foreign policy advisor). He also will address the D-8 meeting on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s positions.

Zarif will also meet his counterparts from member states, and possibly a visit to Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu will be in the agenda. The Iranian delegation will leave for Tehran on Thursday night.

D-8 is a supranational treaty established to improve the economic relations among Islamic developing countries and enhancing of these countries’ influence on international markets. The treaty has objectives including boosting the place of developing countries in international economics, providing new opportunities in trade and economics in regional and international levels; improving participation in international decision-making processes; and improving the welfare and living conditions of people in signatories.

Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and Nigeria are members to D-8. Pakistan is the current head of treaty.
