Commander calls for more dynamic, flexible deterrence power

Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces said Iran’s deterrence capabilities need to become more potent and flexible in view of enemy’s increasing power.

Addressing a gathering of high-ranking military commanders on Tuesday on the occassion of Sacred Defense Week, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri hailed courage, abnegation and sacrifices of the hero nation and the Armed Forces.

He also touched upon the expectations held by the Leader of Staff of the Armed Forces Ayatollah Khamenei to confront threats and to strengthen mobility forces to gain complete readiness against possible risks and dangers.

Bagheri, while emphasizing the need to maintain the current deterrence power, said these capabilities need to be boosted since enemy is also upgrading its abilities day to day.

Maj. Gen. Bagheri later pointed to the significance of Basij (mobilized voluntary forces) stressing the need for complete readiness against both strategic and tactical operational attacks.

Later at the ceremony, Bagheri appointed Brig. Gen. Mehdi Rabbani as Operations Deputy of Armed Forces Chief of Staff. Rabbani had previously served as IRGC operations deputy and as commander of IRGC Sarallah Base.

Rabbani replaced IRGC Brig. Gen. Ali Shadmani, who was recently appointed IRGC Khatam Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense base coordination deputy.
