Philippines hotel fire kills seven, including Americans

At least seven people, including three Americans, have been killed in a hotel fire near a former US naval base in northern Philippines.

The incident occurred at Dryden Hotel in Olongapo city west of the capital, Manila, on Friday.

One South Korean national and three women of unspecified nationalities are also among the victims of the blaze, which burned through the small two-storey hotel.

Olongapo civil defense chief Angelito Layug said an investigation had been launched into the incident in the resort city, which has a “fairly large population of retired American servicemen.”

Layug added that the Americans settled in and around the coastal city after the US military closed the nearby Subic Naval Base in 1991.
