Jalili, Muallem review bilateral ties

Jalili-MuallemSecretary of the IRI Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, underlined the need for vigilance against foreign powers’ plot on the part of Middle Eastern states on Thursday.

Jalili in a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister, Walid al-Muallem, termed the ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria as outstanding and strategic. Jalili said Tehran and Damascus should be vanguards of constructive cooperation in the region.

“Regional countries have common interests and face the same threats, therefore they should move towards forming inter-regional cooperative policies,” Jalili added.

Syrian Foreign Minister in return stressed on his country’s readiness to expand ties with Iran and said he would examine ways to promote bilateral cooperation as well as exchange of experiences between the two countries in his next visit to Tehran.

Walid al-Muallem referred to Iran and Syria’s approach to regional issues as constructive, adding that it is for the regional states to shape the new Middle East regardless of what the foreign powers incite.
