Tehran, Muscat to Start Direct Flights Late in August

Iran and Oman are due to launch direct flights between their capitals by the end of August, a senior Iranian diplomat announced on Tuesday.

Iran’s Ambassador to Oman Hossein Noushabadi said that debates on the necessity of establishing direct flights between Tehran and Muscat have long been underway and the two sides have now come to the conclusion to start these flights.

He said the Tehran-Muscat flights will start on August 31 thanks to the efforts made by the Iranian embassy and the government of Oman and coordination and cooperation of the relevant authorities in Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization.

“There will be daily flights between the two countries’ capital cities even on Fridays so that the two countries’ nationals are provided with better access routes and more appropriate facilities,” the Iranian envoy said.

He noted that the direct flights will help the two countries promote bilateral relations in political, cultural, scientific and tourism fields.

Iran and Oman have expanded cooperation in a variety of areas such as economy and defense since Iran’s President Ahmadinejad took office in 2005. The two countries signed a security agreement in August 2009.
