The special units of the Syrian army blew up several tunnels used by terrorists to transfer weapons and forces in Aleppo’s Old City district.

Commander of the special forces operating in the region said that the terrorist groups had dug vast areas of the region to build tunnels under the Syrian army positions and “at present, the army’s military engineers are discovering and blowing them up”.

According to him, after smashing the tunnels some clashes erupted between the army and the terrorists during which tens of militants were killed and wounded.

Elsewhere, the army advanced against the terrorists in al-Farafirah in the Western parts of Qala’a region of Aleppo, which military analysts say is an important achievement given the Syrian forces’ success in breaking the terrorists’ defense lines in the Old City.

“Also, after advances in Farafirah, the army will intensify its attacks against the Fatah al-Sham (al-Nusra) Front and other terrorist groups’ positions in the Eastern regions of Aleppo to use them as a launch-pad for more attacks against militants and open different fronts in the region,” a senior army officer said.

The Syrian fighter jets intensified their airstrikes on militants’ positions in Aleppo on Wednesday as the soldiers of President Bashar al-Assad continued to recapture more lands in the province.

The Syrian warplanes carried out combat flights over terrorists’ positions in the strategic town of Khan Touman and surrounding areas in Aleppo province, inflicting major loss and casualties on the terrorists.

The air raids killed and wounded scores of militants and also demolished several military vehicles which were equipped with heavy machine guns.

The latest reports from Syria indicated that the country’s army and popular forces, backed by Syrian and Russian Air Force, continue advances in Aleppo province, forcing the terrorist groups to push back from several strategic territories, military bases and vital supply routes.

The Syrian Army Command Center has called on civilians to leave militant-held districts of Aleppo as soon as possible, vowing to launch a large-scale operation in the Eastern neighborhoods of the city to route out militancy.

The Syrian Army Commander Center in Aleppo said the government forces are getting ready to launch a large-scale operation in the Eastern districts of Aleppo, urging the remaining civilians near terrorist centers to move to safer districts or regions.
