Syria is latest victim of aggressive US foreign policy

Syria is the latest victim of the aggressive foreign policy that the United States has been implementing for several decades, says Scott Rickard, a former American intelligence linguist and political analyst.

Dozens of US State Department officials have called for strikes against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

They signed an internal document that calls for targeted military strikes against the Assad government, according to the Wall Street Journal. The “dissent channel cable” was signed by 51 officials involved with advising on Syria policy in various capacities.

“The US State Department is showing its colors here by basically getting at least 50 individuals to sign official paperwork calling for further attacks on Syria and directly on Damascus and Syrian government targets,” Rickard told Press TV on Friday.

“This is clearly a violation of international law, and it’s a clear indication of the foreign intervention in American foreign policy,” he stated.

“What you have here is you have both United Arab Emirates and Saudi influences as well as Israeli influences on foreign affairs in the United States, whereby State Department individuals have stronger ties to Israel, Saudi Arabia, and also the United Arab Emirates, where they will sign documents calling for the attack on another nation,” he noted.

“This is a long-standing problem with American foreign policy. The foreign influence by the countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Israel as well as even Great Britain and France, these have been Achilles’ heel of American foreign policy unfortunately for over 150 years,” the analyst  said.

“Sadly, US State Department individuals are not loyal to the sovereignty of the United States, and have loyalties outside the United States through families, religious, corporate, financial, and other types of personnel ties and they circumvent the actual sovereignty of the United States,” he pointed out.

“This is a clear violation of the US Constitution as well whereby the US Constitution clearly calls for the US not to meddle in foreign affairs of other countries when in fact there’s no declaration of war, and sadly the United States has violated this over and over again,” the commentator said.

“This has been very indicative of what’s happened in Iran, what’s happened in Afghanistan, and this is what happened in Libya, and so on and so forth. And sadly Syria is the latest victim of the aggressive foreign policy that the Americans continue,” Rickard observed.

Since March 2011, the United States and its regional allies, in particular Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, have been conducting a proxy war against the Syrian people and government.

The years-long conflict has left more than 470,000 Syrians dead and half of the country’s population of about 23 million displaced within or beyond the Arab country’s borders.

Last month, US Secretary of State John Kerry warned the Syrian president of the consequences of a new US approach if he does not accept a political transition in the next few months.

“The target date for the transition is 1st of August,” Kerry told reporters at the State Department on May 3.

“So we’re now coming up to May. So either something happens in these next few months, or they are asking for a very different track,” he added
