At least 60 ISIL terrorists, including several senior commanders, were killed by the Syrian defenders of Deir Ezzur airbase, East of the country, sources said on Friday.

The lead commander of operations at the Deir Ezzur airbase, Abu Hamza Al-Tounisi (Tunisian), was reportedly killed by the Syrian Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard after he attempted to lead the charge on the latter’s defensive positions at the airbase, the sources said.

Not much is known about Abu Hamza Al-Tounisi; however, according to Syrian military intelligence, he was one of the ISIL’s most trusted commanders and a dear friend of Ibrahim Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi (ISIL leader).

The death of Abu Hamza Al-Tounisi wasn’t the only commander that the ISIL lamented on Thursday: Abu Mohammad Al-Hamwi and Abu Umar Al-Baghdadi (Iraqi) were also killed by the Syrian army’s 104th Brigade at the Deir Ezzur airbase after their failed infiltration attempt.

Thursday marked the bloodiest day this week in Deir Ezzur, as the ISIL suffered over 60 casualties during their failed bid to infiltrate into the Deir Ezzur Military Airport and the Sina’a district of the provincial capital.

Three other important ISIL members were killed on Thursday, including ISIL’s Chief Spokesman in Deir Ezzor Abu Khattab Al-Shami, and two foreign field commanders “Abu Umar Al-Tajiki” (Tajikistani) and “Abu Mahrous Al-Jabari” (Saudi).
