Russia nettled by Slavyansk gun battle

Moscow has expressed outrage over a gun battle which occurred near Ukraine’s eastern city of Slavyansk, calling for Kiev to honor the Geneva agreement.

According to AFP, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement expressing severe anger towards the Saturday gun battle that left five people dead, saying Ukraine must fulfill the commitments it agreed upon this week in Geneva.

On April 17, Kiev’s interim government together with the United States, Russia and the European Union reached a deal in the Swiss city calling for all sides to disarm and “de-escalate” the ongoing crisis in Eastern Ukraine.

The deal also stated that protesters must withdraw from state buildings and squares they occupy.

Meanwhile, April 19 gun battle took place as an armed group in four cars attacked a barricade set up by pro-Russian protesters outside the city of Slavyansk, killing three people and seriously injuring another one. Two attackers were also killed in the gun battle.
