Syrian-Indian Talks to Enhance Health Cooperation

Health Minister, Dr. Saad al-Nayef discussed with India’s ambassador in Damascus VP Haran means of bolstering cooperation relations between Syria and India in the health and medical fields, especially medicine registration in both countries.

The two sides underlined the importance of easing the measures of registering some types of medicine in the two countries and removing the obstacles that prevent their access to both as to serve the interests of the two countries in the health and medical centers, expressing Syria’s appreciation for India’s stances and support to Syria against the conspiracy targeting it.

Minister al-Nayef reviewed the health status in Syria and the damage wrought upon the health sector due to the armed terrorist attacks despite the humanitarian nature of this sector, hailing the aid that India is offering to Syria under the current tough circumstances.

The Indian ambassador in Damascus expressed his country’s regret for the unfolding situation in Syria, indicating that India is working to offer medicine to Syria as a grant by the World Health Organization (WHO) to be distributed in all areas.

In statements to journalists following the meeting, Minister al-Nayef said there is no shortage in the domestically-produced medicine which is estimated at 93 percent of its needs, whereas there is 7 percent left that Syria does not have, including hormonal and biological medicine that it tries to obtain from friendly countries, including India.
