Taliban say shot down US drone in Afghanistan

aaaaacil

The Taliban militants claim they have shot down a US drone in southeastern Afghanistan, Press TV reports.

The Taliban said on Saturday that the unmanned aircraft was downed in the province of Logar on Friday. However, there is no immediate comment from the US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan on the incident.

On November 29, a US drone crashed in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province. The US forces blamed the crash on technical failure, but Taliban militants claimed that their fighters had shot down the drone.

The United States regularly uses drones for attacks and spying missions in Afghanistan, as well as in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal belt near the Afghan border, among other places.

Washington claims that its drone airstrikes target militants, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims of the attacks.

The United Nations says the US assassination drone attacks are “targeted killings” that flout international law.
