Taliban want good relations with all countries: Taliban spox

Suhail Shaheen made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Press TV from the group’s political office in the Qatari capital, Doha, on Sunday.

Earlier this month, the Taliban group, who are largely from the Pashtun ethnicity, took over almost all Afghanistan, ousted the former US-backed government and announced that they want to form a new government based on their ideology.

“The Islamic Emirate is not based on one ethnicity. You know that we have in Badakhshan the Tajik ethnicity and also other provinces, like Faryab and Sar-e Pol, which are our Uzbek populated provinces. Also in the south, [we have] the Pashtuns and other ethnicities,” Shaheen said when he was asked whether all ethnicities, apart from Pashtuns, could participate in the future government.

He stressed that the Taliban leadership has been seeking to establish an inclusive Afghan government and that the Taliban want to see all Afghans have shares in the Afghan government.

“So we want all Afghans to be included in Afghan inclusive government. So, all ethnicities can and have right to participate in the reconstruction of Afghanistan and also in the government so they can serve their country and people,” Shaheen emphasized.

The Taliban spokesman further said that the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group is a foreign phenomenon in Afghanistan and that there is no Daesh member in any part of the country.

Shaheen further noted that the Taliban wanted to begin a new chapter in Afghanistan’s history, stressing that they also want to establish good relations with all countries.

As for the women’s rights to education, the Taliban spokesman said that girls have no problem in going to school and women will also have access to education providing that they wear Islamic Hijab

“There are thousands of girls’ schools. They are operative,” Shaheen said, adding that “There are no hurdle” for girls to go to school and “they are going to school.”

“The female teachers have resumed their jobs. So, we have no problem with women having access to education and to work, but only the Islamic Hijab must be observed. They are no questions about women’s rights because we are giving rights to all women. But it is only about hijab,” he added.
