Israel fears new AMIA investigation revelations

amiri20130222145622100An analyst tells Press TV that Israel fears an investigation into the 1994 bombing of the Jewish center in Buenos Aires will reveal its possible role in the incident.

“The apprehension of the Israeli authorities is well-founded because that’s where the finger will be pointed, I feel confident, when the evidence is in,” Ralph Schoenman told Press TV in an interview on Friday.

He added that Israeli security and intelligence bodies have long history of carrying out sabotage operations in other countries and always blaming it on a scapegoat.

“On the contrary I should point out that the Mossad and the Shin Bet have time and time again created false flag operations in country after country ascribing attacks to those they wish to demonize when they are the authors of the attacks themselves,” said Schoenman, who is the author of The Hidden History of Zionism.

In a move sure to further infuriate Israel, Argentina’s Senate has approved an agreement with Iran on the establishment of a fact-finding committee to investigate the bombing of the AMIA Jewish center which left 85 people dead.

“This is a significant event when the Senate has acknowledged that the two governments have to look at this event anew and investigate who is really responsible and what is really involved,” Schoenman stated.

On January 27, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Argentinean counterpart Hector Timerman signed a memorandum of understanding in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to shed light on the AMIA bombing. AMIA stands for the Asociacion Mutual Israelita Argentina or the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association.

Under intense political pressure imposed by the US and the Israeli regime, Argentina had formally accused Iran of having carried out the bomb attack. The Islamic Republic has categorically denied any involvement in the terrorist bombing.
