Two more NATO troops die in Afghanistan

The NATO forces say gunshot wounds have killed two of their troops in Afghanistan a day after Taliban militants kill six of the US-led alliance soldiers.

One of the Friday casualties was caused in the Marjah area of the southern Helmand province in an exchange of fire with the Taliban, AFP reported, quoting a statement by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

The death brings to more than 20 the number of foreign forces killed in the ‘Operation Moshtarak’ which has enlisted 15,000 troopers against the Taliban militants. The widely-publicized campaign, allegedly intended to purge the militant strongholds of Marjah and Nad-e-Ali and establish Afghan governance, has left thousands of locals homeless.

The ISAF has not publicized the nationalities of the latest fatalities.

Six of the soldiers died in the so-called counterinsurgency operation in Helmand yesterday.
