‘US complicity’: Hezbollah says Israel used American intel, missiles to assassinate Sayyed Nasrallah

A high-ranking Hezbollah official has claimed that the United States played a direct role in the aggressive actions against Lebanon and was involved in the plot to assassinate Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. The official emphasized that Washington has significantly intensified its intelligence efforts targeting Hezbollah over the last 25 years. However, he assured that the resistance group remains steadfast and retains the capability to launch strikes against occupying forces.

During an interview on Monday with Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network, Nawaf al-Moussawi, the Director of Hezbollah’s Resources and Borders File, stated that the United States played a part in the decision-making and execution processes regarding the assassination of Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Nasrallah. Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli missile strike on September 27 of the previous year in Beirut.

Moussawi emphasized that the missiles employed in the assault on Nasrallah’s headquarters in Beirut’s Dahiyeh district “were not among those typically found in Israel’s arsenal and were specifically introduced for this targeted operation.”

A Hezbollah representative highlighted a significant escalation in US intelligence activities targeting the group since 2000, noting that these efforts have intensified tenfold in comparison to those executed by Israel. The official emphasized that the American intelligence agenda primarily advances the interests of Israel.

In other segments of his address, Moussawi acknowledged that Hezbollah has endured significant setbacks in its conflict with the Tel Aviv administration. However, he emphasized that the organization, along with the broader Resistance front, remains active and ongoing.

The Resistance has reported inflicting considerable losses on Israeli forces during a peak period of the conflict, highlighting notable achievements such as the Caesarea operation. During this operation, a Hezbollah drone reportedly penetrated Israeli airspace and approached the residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Hezbollah possesses the capability to launch attacks against Israel if the organization addresses its current weaknesses, spokesperson Moussawi emphasized. He noted that there are considerable deficiencies and vulnerabilities that need attention.

A Hezbollah representative has stated that despite assertions by the occupying entity of having attained “success,” there is a lack of evidence to substantiate these purported accomplishments against the group.

Moussawi announced that Hezbollah has initiated an internal investigation into the security and military incidents that occurred during the recent conflict between Israel and Lebanon.

Since the escalation began in October 2023, approximately 4,000 Lebanese individuals, predominantly civilians, have lost their lives, and more than one million people have been forced to flee their homes.

In a significant escalation, Israeli forces carried out targeted operations resulting in the assassinations of multiple high-ranking Hezbollah leaders. Among those reportedly killed were Hezbollah’s prominent figure Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, who served as the Executive Council chief. The strikes also claimed the lives of several commanders and fighters within the organization.

Nasrallah and Sefieddine were interred in the capital city of Beirut on February 23 and 24, respectively, as numerous Lebanese and international supporters paid their respects in a solemn tribute.

The Lebanese resistance movement responded to the aggression by utilizing all available resources, launching a series of retaliatory attacks on key strategic and sensitive Israeli targets.

Hezbollah has declared its commitment to persist in resisting Israeli occupation and aggression, undeterred by the recent casualties. The group maintains that these losses serve only to strengthen its determination to combat what it describes as Israeli transgressions.
