US-led trooper killed in S Afghanistan

Another US-led soldier with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has been killed in an attack in southern Afghanistan, Press TV reported.

The incident took place when an Afghan soldier opened fire on foreign troops and “killed a service member of the International Security Assistance Force in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday,” a Press TV correspondent reported, quoting an ISAF statement on Wednesday.

ISAF did not reveal the nationality of the soldier or the exact location of the attack.

There has been a rise in attacks on US-led foreign forces by Afghan soldiers in recent months.

Last month, an Afghan soldier shot and killed several French troops. The latest death brings to 35 the number of NATO troops killed in Afghanistan so far in 2012.

At least 566 NATO troops were killed in Afghanistan last year, making it the second deadliest year for the Western military alliance since the start of the US-led war in 2001.
