Iran’s Human Rights Commission Condemns Massacre of Egyptian People

The letter voiced concern about the continued suppression of the Egyptian people, and asked the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to break silence and take the necessary measures to prevent the continuation of the current catastrophic situation in Egypt.

“It is surprising that the UN has not yet shown any proper reaction and has adopted no practical measures against contributors to this suppression despite all the vast bloodshed which is a clear instance of crime against humanity based on international legal norms,” the letter said.

It also called on the UN to make consultations with different governments to pressure Egyptian rulers to respect human rights and establish justice to prevent the killing of civilian people by the military forces.

Since July 3, tension has intensified in Egypt when the Egyptian army removed former President Mohammed Mursi from power, suspended the constitution and dissolved the parliament.

On Wednesday, the Egyptian security forces moved in to clear out two camps set up by Mursi’s supporters – one near the Rabaah al-Adawiya Mosque in Nasr City and a smaller one in al-Nahda Square in Giza.

Egypt’s Health Ministry said at least 525 people were killed and 3,600 injured in the violence. The Egyptian Interior Ministry also said 43 policemen were among the dead.

However, the Muslim Brotherhood put the death toll far higher, saying more than 2,000 people had died in the police crackdown.
