Mehr News reported that during a joint press conference in Riyadh on Monday (yesterday, November 4) with the US Secretary of State John Kerry, Saud al-Faisal claimed that Iran had deployed military force in Syria, occupying the country.
Saud’s claim is belied by the fact that Saudi Arabia is one of the major supporters of rebel fighters fighting against Assad government and provides them with financial as well as military resources.
French daily Le Figaro wrote in a report that arms reaching to rebels in Syria was once purchased in black markets in Ukraine and Bulgaria by Saudi Arabia, and then were transferred to unknown places in suburbs of Damascus.
The Figaro report also wrote that these arms included Israeli missiles. “The suburban centers in Damascus are linked directly to a command headquarters controlled by Saudi Arabia’s Intelligence Agency,” wrote the Figaro report, “and when Prince Bandar bin Sultan is absent, CIA would control and lead the center.”
“Representatives from Britain, France, Italy, Qatar, Turkey, and a representative by Lebanon’s Saad al- Hariri are members of the center,” the report added.
In October 30, head of Saudi Arabian intelligence agency told that the US had been unsuccessful in taking major steps to weaken Assad’s government and arming rebel groups with the objective of toppling Assad.
Early in October, Riyadh turned down the UN Security Council non-permanent seat. Bandar bin Sultan was quoted to have said that the act was “a message to the US.”
Meanwhile the Islamic Republic of Iran had been emphasizing on the necessity of finding a political solution to Syrian crisis and ending the violence.
UN reports indicate that since the beginning of the crisis, more than 100,000 people had been killed and if the crisis continues, the UN report writes, by 2014, more than 4 million Syrians will leave their homes.
Estimations indicate that 2 million Syrians have taken refuge outside Syria, with some of 2, 250, 000 people homeless inside Syrian borders.
