Iran achieved almost all objectives in JCPOA: Rouhani

President Hassan Rouhani says Iran has fulfilled almost all its objectives through a nuclear accord known as the JCPOA.

One of the biggest achievements of the nuclear agreement was the “removal” of all sanctions on Iran, without a caveat of suspension or postponement, he said in Tehran on Thursday.

Rouhani said Tehran made the countries and international bodies that had imposed the sanctions lift them.

The accord, he said, was “one of the greatest achievements not only of the Iranian people but also of the developing world in the face of big powers.”

Rouhani noted that the annulment of all anti-Iran resolutions and the lifting of sanctions were his personal red lines in the talks.

The president stressed that during the protracted talks, he had, on three occasions, ordered the Iranian negotiators to leave the negotiating table and stop the process.

“I said to them to leave the meeting and end the negotiations forever if the other parties didn’t accept [our conditions],” Rouhani said.

Iran and the P5+1 group – the US, Britain, France, China, and Russia plus Germany – reached the nuclear agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in July 2015.

The deal came into force on January 16, known as the “Implementation Day.”
