Ex-US envoy confesses 9/11 was good excuse for Iraq war

Former American ambassador to Germany John C. Kornblum said September 11th, 2001 terror atacks in US were a good excuse to start a war in Iraq.

Talking to a German television station, Kornblum revealed that the Iraq war was planned by the US well ahead of 9/11.
I don’t know what would have happened, if September 11 did not take place. They (US government) would have either done nothing or they would have looked for another reason to launch a war, he added.
While Kornblum backed the US overthrow of the Saddam regime, he did acknwledged
that the price for the Iraqi dictator’s ouster was simply ‘too high’ given the high death toll and the immense degree of destruction in Iraq.
He did point out the staggering cost of the Iraq war had also almost ruining effects on the American economy.
Kornblum served as America’s top diplomat in Germany from 1997 to 2001.
Before that, he occupied a number of high-level diplomatic posts, including US
assistant secretary of state for European affairs, special envoy for the Dayton Peace Process, US ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Process) as well as deputy US ambassador to NATO.
