PG states cooperation assures security

A top military adviser to the Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People says cooperation between the Persian Gulf states will assure regional security.

“All-out political, economic and military cooperation between the Persian Gulf littoral states … can assure security of this sensitive region,” IRNA quoted Major General Yahya Rahim-Safavi as saying on Wednesday.

He pointed to the purchase of billions of dollars of military weapons by Arab countries in the Persian Gulf from the US and recommended them to “take lessons” from the fate of the deposed Shah of Iran.

Rahim-Safavi stressed that Israel and the US were behind insecurity in the region, while the Islamic Republic seeks to promote peace, stability and security in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East.

“The 60-year occupation of Palestine by Israel and the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan by the US are the root causes of insecurity in the region,” he said.

Nine years after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan, the foreign presence has yet to establish security in the country.
