N Korea warns US forces ahead of drills

North Korea has warned the top US commander in South Korea of “miserable destruction” if his forces ignite a war by staging the scheduled joint military drills with Seoul.

North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Saturday Pak Rim-su, chief delegate of the North Korean military mission to the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjom, gave the direct message by phone to General James Thurman, the commander of the US Forces Korea.
Pak said “If your side ignites a war of aggression by staging the reckless joint military exercises…at this dangerous time, from that moment your fate will be hung by a thread with every hour.”
He added “You had better bear in mind that those igniting a war are destined to meet a miserable destruction.”
Washington and Seoul are set to hold joint ground and naval exercises called Key Resolve and Foal Eagle in March and April.
North Korea says the joint military drills are a ‘hostile act’ which has bolstered its defenses.
