US, UN Security Council silent on Iran Embassy attack

335509_UNThe United States and the UN Security Council have yet to condemn the terrorist attacks on the Iranian Embassy in Beirut, which killed a senior Iranian diplomat.

Several hours following Tuesday’s deadly attacks, which killed and injured scores of people, Washington and the UN Security Council are still tight-lipped.

Iran has blamed Israel for the attack which killed more than 23 people and injured over 140 near the Iranian Embassy in the southern neighborhood of Janah. Iran’s cultural attaché to Beirut Ebrahim Ansari was reportedly among the dead.

According to Press TV sources, the first explosion took place when a bomber blew his explosives near the gate of the embassy, and the second blast happened just meters away when a car bomb went off.

The death toll is expected to rise, as many of the wounded are in critical condition.

The blasts have also caused damage to the Iranian Embassy and nearby buildings.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Azzam Brigades, an al-Qaeda-linked group, has claimed responsibility for the twin bombings.

The Syrian government has also condemned the terrorist attack.
